| In May of 1965, L. Dale King and two
other civil engineers formed a partnership to provide consulting civil
engineering services to local governments and private developers. The
company was incorporated in May 1970. The first major projects that were
successfully completed in the 1960's and early 70's included the on and
off-site design and surveying for the Montclair Plaza Regional Shopping
Center and the preliminary planning and funding applications, design,
and construction surveying and inspection for several railroad grade
separations in western San Bernardino County. Examples of those
separation type projects are the underpass of Grove Avenue and the UPRR
just south of Holt Boulevard and the overhead of Mountain Avenue and the
UPRR, both in the City of Ontario, California. Over the past 45-plus years there have been many opportunities for LDK, Inc. to provide specialty services such as preparing Specific Plans for large residential projects, environmental assessments, and Master Plan elements for storm water management, water and sanitary sewer systems, and street and transportation master plans. However, the basic surveying and civil engineering services that were provided and that remain the backbone of the company today have been the design of off-site or public works type projects and on-site design for residential, industrial and commercial developments. Contributing to the success of the company has been the historical record of long-term continuing service of key employees. Dale King was President from 1965 to 1989. Carl Freeman joined the firm in 1970 and served as President from 1989 to 2004. Today's leaders include CEO Carla Berard who began employment in 1983 and President Dale Wintergerst who came to LDK from CALTRANS in 1983. An endearing trait of both these leaders, and one they promote for all LDK employees, is taking ownership of all aspects of every project and maintaining clear, ongoing communication with the client. |
